My name is Renee Stein. I am 22 years old and work at CVS Pharmacy. I chose to take this class because I love reading and I thought it would be very interesting reading books that have been banned at some point in time.

Hey. I'm Latiesha. I'm a 23 year old returing college student. I took this class to get more familiar with classic censored/banned works, to hone my crumbling anaylizing skills and also feed my growing, inner literary beast! :) I look forward to hearing all of your thoughts and opinions as this class progresses!

Hello! I'm Julie. I'm going to combine my introduction into my reason for taking the class. I've several interests, two of which are right in the title of this course (censorship and books). Censorship curiosity stems from my broader interest in societies and consciousness. I hope that some of the research within this course bring to light some of the reasons for and side-effects of withholding and suppressing individual expression as well as knowledge. Learning lessons from the past is so mind-opening! It makes you wonder about censorship today and what is accepted and not and for what reasons..... As for books, they to me, are a lifesaver in the ocean of useless entertainment.

Hello everyone! My name is Hana and I am a 16 year old student taking dual enrollment. I chose to take this class because I enjoy reading books that intrigue me. When I get stuck with the boring ones, I can barely keep my eyes open. I thought that taking this class would help me find more books that are interesting and worth reading since the best things in life are usually those that aren't good for you :] I also want to see why the books are banned and for how long of a period they are banned. Is it forever? Can they change this, and who is THEY?

Alright, I have finally gotten everything squared away and am ready to go with this class. My name is Mary. I am a single parent of four boys with only one left in high school. (Yea! I am almost done) I am taking this class as one of my prerequisites needed to go on to receive my Bachelors in nursing. Although, now they are saying that hospitals aren't hiring for nurses (at least new nurses). Hmmm, always a day late. Oh well, I digress. Hopefully by the time I am done the economy will be better. With raising the boys on my own there wasn't enough time for reading, so the first book I read, in I don't even know how many years, was the Kite Runner. Fabulous book. It gives you a little insight into another culture and the way other people live, and I would have to say it touched each one of my senses. Not too bad for a first book from Khaled Hosseini. I love reading and feel this will be a good and fun class for me.

Hello. My name is Jacquie Kemper. I am a returning student. This is my 2nd semester at South Mountain CC. I have 3 children, which I homeschool in addition to attending school full time myself.

I chose this class due to its overwhelmingly heady controversy. What could be more fun than a banned book? Learning why it was banned and who chose to make such an unashamed stand against it is exciting in itself. Many books are found inappropriate simply because they are ahead of their time, others due to fear or social beliefs. Learning how a book maybe fits into it’s genre but not it’s time is very interesting to me.

I love literature and expository writing. I have not found a tremendous amount of time to read for pleasure, however, I find that classes like this create a nice substitute; required reading that is equally enjoyable.

Hello my name is Jake Lough and I am taking this class for two reasons its convenient and sound cool.
A little about my self is I’m married and have a son. I manage a small company and go to school full time. I hope to leave this class with a A+ and to be more empowered with knowledge of the past and present when it comes to censorship.

Hello, my name is Kathy Montoya and I am a returning full time student. I love to read and really appreciate the fact I can read what makes me happy. This class will give me a better understanding of why books were banned. My belief now is that most books were banned due to fear. Fear of the feelings the writer evoked or fear of what others may do with the written information.

Hello
My name is Jessica and i have one child who is a crazy little thang! Well to be honest i took this class because it
was convient for my schedule but one thing that i really enjoy is the fact that the class is not entirely on correct answers.
We all can give our input and i feel these are the best kind of classes. I'm not much of a reader but if a book is good, i keep turning the pages especially if it is banned
