Hi Mary,
This is an interesting link telling you why the book is being challenged by parents in the U.S. The kids (high school) students comments are very interesting and I have to say they seem pretty mature. They want the truth about a culture. I have to say I agree with them. Take a look at this link.

Jake or Dr Coop. If you know how to add a hot link in this site please let me know for next time.

The movie was banned in Afghanistan due to the government thinking the movie would cause an uproar in the country to say the least. There was an actual rape of a boy in the country at the time this movie was released. The boy who was raped went after the 3 who commited the crime against him and killed them all.... can't say I blame him. But the govenment could not deal with the controversy the film would cause. Just some history for you. Let me know if you find more! Carole

Sure, Wetpaint works for me. My email is mary.sladek@yahoo.com. And let me have both your addresses also. I will go to the link and check it out. Just an FYI: I am computer illiterate, so please bear with me. I am familiar with a lot but don't use it so I will need help. Now, a question that I have been asking but can't seem to get an answer, Why was the book banned, and by whom? I have my assumptions but that is all they are. I tried finding it in the banned books section of Amazon and couldn't find anything. So maybe you can let me know how you found it in there.

Anyway, this all sounds like it will be fun and I look forward to working with you both. How are you liking the book by the way?
Mary

Hi Mary, Jake and I are in class right now, we need your email address to invite you as a member to our Wetpaint site. Dr. Coop reviewed some options for our class presentation. Jake and I took a vote to use Wetpaint, so we hope that will work for you. This is our link http://kiterunnerbanned.wetpaint.com/ Our group will edited the site and adding info.. 1. Why the book was banned. 2. Why we agree/disagree why the book was banned.. ( this is a group decision). and we will go from there. Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks Carole for the reminder. I would have missed this if you didn't tell me.

Hi Mary and Jake, Just a reminder, don't forget to post your first journal/blog for Module # 2 - on our book The Kite Runner.

I agree with you both on the topic of themes. It seems to me with any topic from Muslim countries is the differences of Sunni and Shiites. Both groups of this very rich religion are always disagreeing and fighting for seniority. I think this is important in the case Amir and Hassan. As far as politics we will see the difference between government and church.

There is so much in this book, but I would agree that political and religious would fit for a theme. It also fits for the end of the book. Which I will not go any further on so that I don't ruin it for you. I'm sure Jake would agree regarding the theme. Carole, how far have you gotten in the book, so far? I hope you really like this book. When I first read it I could not wait to get to the next chapter to find out what happens next. I read it so fast that I think the second time around I'll read stuff that I probably passed over the first time.

This is my first read for this book. I am so glad you both joined me. Dr. Coop says we need to have a theme for our group readings, so I am thinking political and religious both fit. You both may have an insight for other themes in the book. Let me know what your preference is for our group project presentation as well, just thinking ahead! Enjoy your weekend! Carole

I guess The Kite Runner was found out that indeed it is a banned book? This will be good, and I will enjoy reading it a second time. I'm sure I missed parts in the first reading. We have a good group and I look forward to working with you.
