Journal #8: Symbolism – The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye is a story about a young man who is expelled a few times from prep schools. Now the word school can bring images to our minds of classrooms, studying, recess, and our forever favorite, lunch. If you drive by a school, you see brick and mortar, high walls, sprawling lawns and possibly, chain link fences. What I had not planned on was discussing a common theme amongst the books I chose but I have to say it all worked out great in the end. Ruth, Caitlin and I will look at the common theme that these books hav… Continue

Journal #4: Climax – Lady Chatterley’s Lover

I have chosen to discuss three crises that result in climaxes in Lady Chatterley’s Lover. The first, and what I believe to be the worst crisis to occur was between Clifford and the war. Clifford came home paralyzed from the hips down, forever changing him and the people around him. The crisis is the war and the horrific climax is Clifford’s paralysis. The moment we found out Clifford was paralyzed we felt such profound shock and sadness. An immediate thought was we now know Connie will have an a… Continue
