I think Amazon does really fail. I do not think it was a glitch. How can a glitch take out all of one subject and not just random books? I understand that some people are uncomfortable with homosexuality, but that is no reason to hide all books ab...

Journal #15: My American Psycho Project

For my solo project I chose to stick with something I already know how to do so I made a website on wetpaint. I named it "Banning Psycho" because I thought it was cute and clever. On my wetpaint site I have a summary of the book and some of the characters. I then talk about why the book was banned. Next I mentioned information about the author, Bret Easton Ellis, and his other novels. Finally I end with a page about the movie, and a page comparing the movie to the book. I also have a future read… Continue

Journal #14: Reasons for Banning American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis

The biggest opposer of American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis is the National Organization for Women or NOW. They see the book as being misogynistic. I can understand their reasoning for seeing it that way even though the author has said numerous times that he doesn't hate women. In the book, Patrick Bateman sees women as "hardbodies" and that a woman with a good personality and hot looks does not exist. He also murders many woman and then cannibalizes their bodies. At one point he goes so far as… Continue

Journal #13: Patrick Bateman, American Psycho

In the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, the main character is named Patrick Bateman. Patrick Bateman is a very wealthy man, who works at Pierce&Pierce on Wall Street just so he can fit in. The story is told from his point of view and seems to be more of his thoughts and feelings then a description of the current happenings. As the book is read the reader sees his obsession with drugs, drinking, and killing. The reader may even be amused by Patrick's random comments about desires to… Continue

Journal #12: Imagry in American Psycho

I am a good portion of the way through the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis. So far in the book I have met the main character, Patrick Bateman. The most obvious element in the book is the author's use of imagery. Many scenes have been so descriptive that I have to put the book down. Patrick Bateman is the one telling the story and since he is the killer he gets very detailed about the killing. He also goes into great deal about the threesomes he has with two lady prostitutes. The most a… Continue

Journal #11: American Psycho

The book I have chosen to read as my individual project is American Psycho by Bret Easton Elis. I chose this book because it sounded interesting to me. I also have been wanting to see the movie and figured I could compare and contrast the book and movie for part of my project. For my project I am going to use wetpaint again because I found it easy to use.

Oh you didn't miss much. Like Jacquie said, make sure that everything is cited, even the pictures. We worked on the homepage summary and I added a new page for Characters. I'll work on that one :) You can just concentrate on the 'Who Bans Them' part for now and we'll catch up on Tuesday =)

Hi Renee. Hana and I worked on the Wetpaint Wiki page. Go ahead and look at what we added. That was pretty much the whole class.
Dr. Cooper's lecture today was on making sure we are all making progress on our projects and making certain that we cite our quotations or paraphrasing. (give credit to whatever website we took the information from).

I would LOVE to read a true life story that was censored or banned. I finished Lady Chatterly's Lover today, it was a good read I thought. I have seen the movie the Notebook... same I assume.. I am leaning towards The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera to read for our next phase. The book was banned from the 40th Cairo International Book Fair and with 58 customer reviews has a 4.4 star rating.. I think it may be a good read and I really want to know why it was banned.. What you to think?

Yes, I have read and like the Thousand Splendid Suns. Not as well as The Kite Runner though. I have also read The Notebook and the follow-up to that is The Wedding, it is a must read. I am now reading Because Each Life is Precious. This is about the guy who informed the American soldiers to Jessica Lynch. This is very good so far also. I like to read real life stories as well as fantasy. I am having a really hard time reading this Miss Chatterley's Lover. What about you?
