Week 16 - My project

Welcome to my final post! I will now explain what my project is all about and where it is. I read the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and the url to my page is : fahrenheit451bradbury.wetpaint.com My page will have an analysis of the plot as the homepage with an intriguing picture the motion picture. I also included pages about the characters, who bans the book, who is against banning, videos, and about Ray Bradbury. I tried my best in making the wiki wetpaint without giving out any spoil… Continue

Week 15 - Challenging My Book

It was very hard to find who challenged Fahrenheit 451. The only real case I could find was one in the Mississippi School District where a parent complained that the book had words like, ''goddamnit'. Others would also say that they would ban it for the language. But in most part, people probably wanted the book banned because it showed a negative future for us. The books talks about how we might be censored in the future and how the 'firemen' are trying to control the people in this way. Some s… Continue

Week 14 - Characters

Guy Montag: The protagonist of the book, he is a firemen that makes fires and burns books. He sees his job as normal and comfortable until he meets a young girl name Clarisse that shows him that he's not happy living the way he is. He begins reading books and yearning to understand. Working as a firemen, he is very cautious of what could happen to him, but later, does not care and freely shows his wanting of the books. At work, Captain Beatty is constantly showing him up on his knowledge of lite… Continue

week 13 - Exposition

Guy Montag lives in a time when everything is so different and topsy-turvy. He is a fireman that makes fires. He burns books without a second thought. "Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman. Friday Faulkner, burn 'em to ashes, then burn the ashes. That's our official slogan." The setting takes place somewhere in the future when problems are taken to the extreme. For instance, suicide by sleeping pills is so normal that there is a company that fix all the cases of it every evening. Nothing is see… Continue

Week 12:Plan of Action - Fahrenheit 451

My solo project book has finally been decided and I chose Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. This book challenges both the Nazi book burnings and reading in general. This is why I chose this book. It seemed interesting that in their society, firemen make fires, not put them out. Like in my group project, I plan on making a wetpaint site and making various pages for all the important factors. I am now working on my banner and I am halfway through the book. Continue

II. - Journal #10: My Role

On our wiki page, we had many components that all the members worked on. Our whole group made the homepage by combining all our ideas, but individually, I worked on how it was related to the first amendment and part of the characters. Although I did not do as much writing as the other two members, I did the graphics for the wiki page. I worked on the banner and the layout of all the pags on the wiki pages. I also created the thread discussion on our group page so that we could come up with a way… Continue

II. - Journal #9: Challenging the Book

There are so many factors that people will look at just to ban a book. Just a few that are mostly looked at are sexual content, violence, and explicit vocabulary. The Chocolate War does seem to to have all three, but I believe that the level is not major. Since the book is based on high school boys going to a Catholic all-boys high school, it is highly expected that the boys would fantasize and engage in their sexual pleasures. Boys still do it today even if it's not written in a book and expla… Continue

II. - Journal #8: Characters

The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier has many messages and Cormier uses different methods to convey them. He shows it through the setting, the vocabulary, but most importantly, the people. Every character in the book depicts something vital in one way or another. Some that were more easily seen are Jerry, Archie, Brother Leon, Goober, and Obie. I just finished the book so I will judge the characters based on the whole book. SPOILERS!! Jerry is the main character in the book, the potagonist that… Continue

II. - Journal #7: Exposition

At Trinity High School, the students of this all-boys school are like any other: being tormented by teachers, reading porn in the bathroom, and trying consistently to get out of there. But the one thing that's different about Trinity; something that sets it apart from the other private boy's school in the area: the Vigils. The Vigils acts like the shadow government; wreaking havoc, yet keeping everything under control. Archie, the Assigner, could be seen as the leader of the Vigils although ther… Continue

II. - Journal #6:Plan of Action

The book that we plan on working on is The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. We think that making a Wet Paint Wiki page would be the best way to display our information. Our wiki page is called: www.thechocolatewar.wetpaint.com On the website, we will have a homepage, and then three other pages that each member will design themselves. Jacquie Kemper will give the information on why the book was banned. Renee Stein will describe the groups of people that ban the books. I will explain how the ba… Continue

Journal #5 - Book Review

Lady Chatterley's Lover was a very interesting book. It almost seems like a tv drama of the 1920's and 30's. Lady Chatterley was not an ordinary woman for her time and she really was the main character of this entire story. what she felt, what she saw, what she wanted were all vivdly portrayed in this book. Compared to her, even Clifford and Mellors played minor roles. Mrs. Bolton became quite the character by the end of the book. The two greatest themes I saw in the book were rebirth/renewal an… Continue

Journal #4 - Rebirth/Renewal

Throughout this entire book, there were many paths that many characters walked on. Connie continued to grow, while Clifford began shrinking away. With the topic of Rebirth and Renewal, we can see how it affected both characters and other characters within the book. Connie was a very vibrant girl as she was growing up, but she was mentally locked away by Clifford, staying docile until it reached a certain point. Many times renewal seemed like it would occur, with the heated feeling in the pit of… Continue

Journal #3 - Conflict: Man vs. Woman vs. Society

I know that the title is a bit unusual, but read it and weep because that it my topic. Man refers to Clifford while woman refers to Constance. The role of the man and the role of the women are pretty much set in stone in this classic book. The man is supposed to make the money, be the head honcho, and be able to have sex. The woman is supposed to be the hostess, side the man, and be submissive. Connie does her part and she feels that she is somewhat cheated. It's not Clifford's fault that he can… Continue

Journal Post #2 - Exposition

I guess I am going a little backwards here, but today I would like to write about the exposition. The book takes place in the beginning of the 1900's in a little place called Wragby Hall. As set by the narrator, Constance Chatterly, Wragby Hall is a dreary little place that suffocates her of her freedom. Something that is a little unsual, Constance has had her affairs and relationships before marriage, which is uncommon in this time period. Being used to the forests walks with intelligent young… Continue

Journal #1 - Characters

The element of plot that I want to talk about this week is characters. So far, I have read to chapter 10 and there are a few major and minor characters. Some of the minor ones right now are Hilda, Mrs. Bolton, and the gatekeeper, Mr. Mellor. The major characters are still both Clifford and Constance Chatterley. Both are also very dynamic characters in the fact that they are constantly changing. Lady Chatterley on one hand has this one idea that never changes: sex is nothing great, but is always… Continue
