In this blog I will be using the rising action of Chapters 4-8 in reflecting on the themes of religion and science fiction. The three witch’s (Mrs. Who, Which, Whatsit) take the three children to a two dimensional world which is not good for humans, causing them pain. Still on the journey to find Mr. Murry the three witches’ show the children “The Black Thing” which is pure evil, which is covering up earth. While doing so the children also learn of the tesseract, which instead of traveling from point A to point B in a straight line, you fold the two points together resulting in a very shorter distance. The children keep going through these scary obstacles, making them grow together and as a person. Back to “The Black Thing” the children are introduced to the Happy medium who has a crystal ball and she continues to tell the children of how terrible earth is and of the evil taking over. Now at point B, Camazotz, a place where everyone is the same, there are no diseases where everyone is happy. Now, Charles Wallace is taken into trance by the Man with Red Eyes, and Charles is taking Meg and Calvin on a tour of Camazotz while making walking space in solid walls, showing who’s in the little room/cells. Finally, as Charles Wallace continued to show them the next transparent column, Meg screamed, “FATHER!” ending at chapter 8.
