Connie does parallels England during that time period, and it makes perfect sense why the book ended the way it did. We are left with no clear answer of the future of Connie and Mellors and the baby that it about to born. Just like there was no clear answer to the future of England during that time period. And the unborn baby to me represents hope of something good and happy to come even when there was an unclear or uncertain future. Throughout the book we saw find out the Clifford represents the upper-class or high society if you will; and since he was handicapped; it means that high society is not what it use to be before the war just like Clifford before the war he could walk but during the war he become handicapped. In the book there’s also Mrs. Bolton who to me is really interesting to my believe she represents to lower class or the middle class, she hated Clifford (the upper-class) but at the sometime she would admired him; and it makes total sense because even today middle class people might hate the fact that these type of people have people but at the sometime they are curious about the upper class. Mellors of course represents the working class and since Connie represents England and the two having a baby together, I think H.D. Lawrence is trying to say that is not the upper class that is going to make the country better but the working class; because the baby represent hope of good things to come.
