In the book American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis, the main character is named Patrick Bateman. Patrick Bateman is a very wealthy man, who works at Pierce&Pierce on Wall Street just so he can fit in. The story is told from his point of view and seems to be more of his thoughts and feelings then a description of the current happenings. As the book is read the reader sees his obsession with drugs, drinking, and killing. The reader may even be amused by Patrick's random comments about desires to kill that his friends completely ignore. One whole chapter in the book is told when Mr. Bateman is strung out on drugs, making it very confusing for the reader. His OCD like obession with the clothing of everyone, and returning videos on time, is amusing but also kinda boring and creepy. Some scenes are describe so vividly that the reader needs a strong stomach to get through them.
