The conflict of Fahrenheit 451 was most defiantly man vs. society but also for a little while man vs. self. Toward the beginning is where we mostly see man vs. self. Guy Montag is a Firefighter who must burn down houses that are found with any books. He meets a young girl and begins to realize how truly unhappy he is. Deep down he knows why and fights against his own thoughts until he was forced to burn a lady that chose to stay in her house and burn with her books. He wanted to know and feel something that powerful he couldn’t understand it just blew him away. So he sneaks some home and reads and then he realizes he wants to keep reading and have books in his life. This is when he starts fighting society. He tries to get his wife to go along with it and give it a chance, she tries but not for long. He also tries to convince a few of his wife’s friends which turns out to be a huge mistake. Montag reaches out to a man who he knows secretly reads a lot and they have a plan to try to fight society and change what people think as well as burn some of the firefighters. Although their plan doesn’t quite work Montag never gives up hope that one day books with be allowed and firemen will fight fire like they had once before.
