Banned Books and Censorship

South Mountain Community College

Guy Montag lives in a time when everything is so different and topsy-turvy. He is a fireman that makes fires. He burns books without a second thought.
"Monday burn Millay, Wednesday Whitman. Friday Faulkner, burn 'em to ashes, then burn the ashes. That's our official slogan."
The setting takes place somewhere in the future when problems are taken to the extreme. For instance, suicide by sleeping pills is so normal that there is a company that fix all the cases of it every evening. Nothing is seen as an extreme anymore. Their walls are made up of televisions and they talk to their tv's and aren't seen as crazy.
But Guy meets a 17 year old girl named Clarisse McClellan, who asks him: Are You Happy? He then looks at his life and realizes he is not. She also asks him if he has ever read the books that he has burned, and the answer is again, no.
The plot thickens as Guy begins to move onto to very monumental decision making.

Interesting story, what year is this setting? Is sounds like Clarisse is slowy but surely getting inside of Guy. She is getting him to think outside his normal box. I hope he reads the next book he picks up, let me know!
